Welcome to Biology Education at Ruhr University Bochum!

Biology education is the science of teaching and learning biology. It forms a bridge between biology as a subject on the one hand and educational sciences on the other. In our research, we therefore investigate how effective biology lessons can be designed in secondary schools and what skills (prospective) biology teachers need to achieve this. We are currently focusing on the following topics:

• Lesson planning skills
• Creativity in biology teaching
• Curriculum research in biology education
• Modeling skills

If you would like to become a biology teacher, we will accompany you through the M.Ed. program at RUB and support you in designing evidence-based and contemporary biology lessons.
